The latest trends

Several of the editorial team, including myself, recently attended the International Astronomy Show which was held near Leamington Spa in early June. It was a great chance to network with suppliers, catch up with what's hot and upcoming and look round the huge assembly of telescope, trade stands, and generally mix with everyone interested in the Universe around us.

It's impressive to see the large spacious venue fully used by almost all the major astronomical equipment vendors and so refreshing to be able to walk around and inspect full systems. It's also a great chance to peruse the vast array of accessories that are just as vital to get the most out of your telescope.

There are lots of exciting new developments taking place and we will naturally be at the forefront of reviewing any new equipment for you as soon as we can do so.

It's interesting to see that the way we interact with our equipment is also changing. This is evidenced by Celestrons new range, the NexStar Evolution series of complete systems that have integrated wireless functionality so you can use your smart phone or tablet to control your telescope. Now this facility is already available but you have to buy a separate unit to plug into your scope so it was natural that the next step would be to integrate it into the mount. Perhaps this is the future and a good way to encourage a new generation of tech savvy astronomers.

Our reviews this month feature an easy to operate 10-inch Dobsonian from Revelation, a new DSLR guider for wide field imaging from iOptron and a new all in one astronomy CCD camera from Orion US so make sure you grab your copy to keep up to date with all the latest developments in astronomy.
